Thursday Is for What the Hell Is This?

You guys! The universe loves me. I wasn't sure what to post this week then Yoko Ono introduced a men's clothing line. If you close your eyes and imagine a the craziest parody of what a Yoko-designed men's clothing line looks like I guarantee that it will not hold a candle to actual crazy that she came up with. Light up boobie! Giant crotch hand prints! "Butt" cartoons! It's all there.

Here are butt (see what I did there?) a few images.

No Repeat December Knitters' Challenge

I know most of you don't watch the makeup videos I post here. So a little recap, I'm currently doing a makeup challenge called No Repeat November. The idea is you only get to use a product once then it goes into a box or a bag or whatever and you can't use it again until you've used up everything else in that category. There are no rules. Everyone is free to approach it how they like. I've been doing it for a little over two weeks now and I'm really enjoying it. I'm using things I didn't think I liked and finding that I love them. I'm rediscovering things I had forgotten or neglected.

What, you may be asking, does this have to do with knitting? Well I'm glad you asked!

I am going to do a No Repeat challenge for December. I have 25+ handknit sweaters. Generally I wear the same four or five over and over. I recently went through to reorganize them and found sweaters I had forgotten I knit! So I intend to wear a different sweater each day of December. Once I wear it I will set it aside. I intend on doing the same with shawls, scarves and cowls. Once I wear one I will put it aside. I love to knit. I love the things I make. But sometimes they just sit in plastic bins and get completely ignored. Not this December!

I plan on posting a photo each day to Instagram (I'm rosekimknits) and my twitter (also rosekimknits) each day. I will use the hashtag #norepeatdec. I can post here on the blog to if you'd all prefer it. I might even through in my Facebook page to boot. I would love for you to all join me. Don't fuss if you don't have a month's worth of sweaters. You can just make an effort to wear a different knit each day including socks, mitts, hats, whatever you like. I just want us to all wear and enjoy our knits.

So, are you with me? No Repeat December!

Rage. Building.

I just got a blog comment that reads,

The link included is this.

This is a pair of gloves I knit for Wes in 2008. I spent $11 on the yarn (Cascade 200
Superwash). I spent five days knitting them. Then some absolute stranger on the internet thinks he can just order up a pair for $2?? How enraging that he imagines that my time--or any human being's--has so little value that this would be a reasonable offer. I was going to suggest that he wait until a similar pair goes on clearance at Wal-Mart but even then I think they would cost more than $2.

To quote Liz Lemon, "Nerd-RAGEEEEEEEE!!!"

Thursday Is For What the Hell Is This?

What is there to say except, "Nice abs?"

I wouldn't show my face either.

"Does this make me look fat?"

Uh...

Yeah, just keep your face covered.

Large Lace Collar Tam

Pattern: Large Lace Collar Tam by Karin Ivarsson
Yarn: Kit available from http://www.solsilke.se/
Needles: US0 and 1 Addi Lace
Notes: This is not a knit for the faint of heart! There are three colors and knitting and purling on nearly every round until you get to the crown. The colors early on are also very difficult to distinguish if you're not working in very good light.
Sorry for the camera-held-over-my-head shots. Wes and I have been really busy and I couldn't find time to get him to photograph me. But this project has been complete for nearly two weeks and I wanted to get it on the blog finally.

Thursday Is for What the Hell Is This?

Today's theme is "Ruffles Where There Should Be No Ruffles." Full disclosure: I'm not a very ruffle-y person. I rarely look at a knitted item and think, "You know what this needs? Ruffles!" However if you are going to place ruffles on something there should be a purpose. Form follows function. Ruffles are like the highlighter pen of the knitting world. You don't want to emphasize just anything.

This sweater has an awful lot going on. Lace, ribbing, peplum, waist tie and then...ruffles that skim down the fullest part of the bust? No to mention creating an 80s padded shoulder effect that would do Joan Collins proud. Though the model is doing her best to cover all this up you can see this in action here.

And then...

What were they thinking? Vertical ruffles, horizontal ruffles, acres of ruffles! Ruffles around the waist--just where you want some extra width and volume, am I right, ladies? And little ruffled tufts running down the front of the skirt. I'm pretty sure no one wants tufts of yarn sprouting from her groin. This dress needs to see a waxer stat.

Gnarled Oak Cardigan

Pattern: Gnarled Oak Cardigan by Alana Dakos
Yarn: Baruffa 7 Settembre dyed by me
Needles: US 2.5 and 3
Notes: I didn't think I would have enough yarn to make full-length sleeves. I knit the body to the armholes then provisionally cast on the full circumference for the sleeves and knit about an inch, joined the sleeves to the body and completed the yoke. I picked up and knit the buttonbands then went back and knit the sleeves down. I ran out of yarn just past the elbows so that's that. The whole time I knit this I was worried it would be a little snug but it ended up being a little baggier around the waist than I had hoped.
Sorry for grimacing so much in the photos. It was a very wet and blustery day!
