Thanks and WIPS

Thanks for all the kind feedback on the baby sweater I'm making. I'm going to TNNA and won't be taking it since it's so close to being finished. Maybe next week.

I'm making great progress on Brickless which is just the right amount of easy plus patterning. You don't have to think about it but it doesn't lull you to sleep. I also just cast on for Shalder to take with me on my trip.

Is This the Ugliest Baby Sweater I've Ever Knit?

I've been trying to use up all my little sock scraps for...ever? I had a bag of scraps that were completely not my colors but seemed to work nicely together so I decided to knit a Scrappy Socky Stripey Cardi.

Oof.

I'm a fan of scrappy projects but this is a bit much even for me. That coupled with colors I don't particularly care for and yeah...not great.

I'm just going to forge ahead and finished this sad little dude then try to find someone who likes these colors.

Cleaning My Queue

Over on the Doubleknit podcast group Erin and I are hosting a KAL called Spring Clean Your Queue. The idea originally was to get inspired to knit things that have been in your queue since last year or longer. I have items that date all the way back to 2007. The KAL has morphed into a reassessment of all those patterns sitting there waiting to be knit. I deleted so much I was able to cut my queue down from eight pages to three. The Medusa shawl I just finished came off of there. It was originally queued in June 2011.

Now I'm working on Brickless by Martina Behm. I queued it when it was first released in 2012. Then deleted it. Then put it back in October. I'm using some Hazel Knits Lively DK in Jam Session that I got at one of the trunk shows we've had at the shop. I only recently got it into my Ravelry stash so I don't know which year I bought it. This is a lovely nearly mindless knit that is still interesting enough to keep me from nodding off while I knit.

Medusa

Pattern: Medusa by Amanda Muscha
Yarn: Dream in Color Jilly in Fortune*
Needles: US7 Addi Long-Tip Lace Clicks
Notes: I knit the shawl as written for the stockinette and lace version. The stitch pattern is simple but it is patterned on both the right and wrong side rows so it's not exactly a mindless knit. The effect is cool though.

*This yarn was given to me for review on the Doubleknit podcast by the company.

Thursday Is for What the Hell Is This?

I don't want to alarm you but it appears the Carnivorous Poncho has respawned.

It's hunger for baby flesh is unsated.

How do we stop it?

Linney (at Last!)

Pattern: Linney by Amy Christoffers
Yarn: Handspun, hand-dyed three-ply Corriedale
Needles: US7 and 8 Addi Long-Tip Lace Clicks
Notes: First, please excuse how long it took to get a photo of me in this sweater. Second, please ignore my hair (I went for a walk in the rain). I pretty much knit the sweater as written. I made a few little fudges along the way because my row gauge was more compact than the pattern called for but I honestly don't recall what exactly I did. I chose to do a knitted-on button band because I couldn't imagine trying to sew on a whole button band in uneven handspun yarn.

Thursday Is for What the Hell Is This?

Forgive me, readers. I'm having a bit of deja vu with today's pictures. I feel like I've posted them perhaps before but I can't find an actual post with them. I guess it's Same Fug, Different Day around here.

I think this is a reverse-Swants. Like these were pants that got cut up and made into a sweater. With Jane Jetson's skirt thrown in for luck.

Then they got cut up again and made back into pants?

Could be worse I guess.

Testing

A few weeks ago I was given a skein of Dream in Color's new yarn, Jilly, to test. I finally got started with it yesterday. This will be Medusa which has been in my Ravelry queue for a several years. I've been severely editing my queue as part of the Doubleknit Spring Clean Your Queue KAL. It feels really good to wrestle it down to a manageable size. I've shrunk mine from eight pages down to three!

Purlygirl Retreat Scarf

Last weekend we had our annual Purlygirl retreat to Fort Worden. Several people had expressed interest in seeing me warp my loom (10" Cricket). I threw together this scarf using more mill ends of Mountain Colors Bearfoot. The last time I alternated skeins in the warp every two threads. This time I just warped with a mini-skein until I ran out. The result is that one half of the scarf looks darker than the other. I haven't finished the fringe or washed it yet.

Thursday Is for What the Hell Is This?, Throwback Edition

The Seattle Knitters Guild had it's annual Fiber Frenzy last night. There was a table for free stuff people were giving away with lots and lots of old knitting and sewing magazines. A few items jumped out at me so I'd thought I'd share them. Visitors to Seattle always marvel at the fact that people here almost never use umbrellas or wear raincoats. It's seen as a badge of honor to simply tolerate the rain (drizzle, really). Also no one wants to look like this.

It don't think it could ever rain hard enough to warrant wearing this fleshy monstrosity.

I don't think the next one needs much explanation. This shit is just scary.

Can't sleep. Clown will eat me.
