Fiber Gallery Imperial Stock Ranch Retreat

I just got home from the Fiber Gallery's first-ever retreat to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We were lucky enough to go to Maupin, Oregon to have a day of instruction with Bonne Marie Burns and a day at the Imperial Stock Ranch. It was amazing. But, since I was running the whole thing, it was also exhausting. Which is why I'm very happy to heading to my usual November retreat to Fort Worden first thing Wednesday morning!

A few snapshots from our trip.

Imperial Stock Ranch Comes to US

I'm really excited because this weekend we're having a great special event at the shop. We will be hosting a trunk show, yarn tasting and a talk by Jeanne Carver of Imperial Stock Ranch. Jeanne is an amazing person who is really passionate about her work. If you're free I'd highly recommend coming to hear her talk at 2 on Saturday.

Destination Yarn!

Tomorrow marks the start of the 2012 LYS Tour. This year's map is smaller with only 21 shops on the tour making it that much more doable. We will also be having special stitch markers that we will be handing out as prizes for the 7th, 14th and 21st shops visited and a special marker for folks when they hit their last shop as well as a pin to hold them all. This is in addition to daily drawings at every shop and the eight gift certificates for our grand prize drawing! Throw in a free pattern (sometimes two, one knit and one crocheted) at every store along the way and a 10% discount on the featured yarn at each shop and you have yourself an amazing yarn event. Don't miss it!

Join Us for the Fiber Gallery Anniversary Sale!

I know many of my readers live far, far away from Seattle but for those of you in the Puget Sound region I wanted to let you know that the Fiber Gallery's annual clearance sale is this weekend. Not surprisingly you won't see much from me until it's over.

The sale runs Friday, April 27 to Sunday, April 29 during regular store hours. We will have loads of clearance yarns at 40% off and all other yarns will be 20% off. Don't forget that we've moved and are now at 8212 Greenwood Ave N. We have a parking lot behind the building with access off of 83rd St. There's no back entrance though so you need to walk around to the front.

Moving a Yarn Shop

The shop move is done and went very well. The new space at 8212 Greenwood Ave N is open and light. Our customers really seem to love it and we're already finding lots of new customers.

Here's what the old location looked like before the movers arrived.

That's right. We bagged up the yarn in garbage bags. It doesn't seem very dignified but it worked well, was cheap and easy.

The movers were also able to move some small fixtures with the yarn still on the shelves. This was a huge time-saver.

Here's the new space before we finished moving in.

We had a lot of wire bins to build. We had a consultant help us a little in figuring out how to layout the new shop. The biggest issue is that our storage, though large, is in the basement and we have to walk alllllll the way around the building and go through the basement to get to it. We don't want to have to run down there a lot during the day or make customers wait while we do that so our consultant suggested we construct some double-deep bin areas. This meant a lot of building but has so far been working out very well. We can display the yarn nicely and stash all the full and partial bags behind it.

We've got a bit of yarn stashed in other hiding places too.

As we were moving in our new exterior sign arrived.

We also had lettering added to our window so that folks passing by would know what we do.

Here we are all moved in.

We still have lots of small details to work out and polish but we are thrilled with our new space!

So long, 7000 Greenwood, we had seven and a half great years together.

Our New Home

The reason I've been so quiet lately is that the Fiber Gallery has moved. After weeks of planning, sifting, packing, lugging and toting, we are now in our new location, 8212 Greenwood Ave N. Today is our opening day at the new spot. Things are still a bit rough but we think our customers are going to love the new space. If you're in the Seattle area please come by and check out the new digs. Also tonight is our drop-in spinning group so bring your wheel or spindle and join us from 6:30 to 9.

Katarina

Pattern: Katarina by Julie Weisenberger
Yarn: Blackstone Tweed
Needles: US7 Addi Turbo Lace
Notes: Sadly I knit the whole sweater on 7s instead of 8s. Since it is a shop sample I didn't reknit it. It doesn't need to fit anyone in particular. The Blackstone Tweed washes up so nicely. It's soft and plump and really lovely. I highly recommend this sweater as a fast, simple and flattering knit!

Chaos

Our youngest son is having his 9th birthday party tonight. There are little boys shrieking their heads off all over my house. You know that level of energy they get when they can only scream until they lose their freaking minds? That's where we are. It will be "bedtime" soon.

The sale at the shop was huge today. There is still a load of great yarns on clearance and all other yarns on sale all day Sunday at 20% off.

I am exhausted.

Also, Shalom is finished except for a little blocking and sewing on a button.

Tomorrow is pancake breakfast for party guests, back-to-back kid musical performances including a visit from the in-laws then, most likely, lapsing into a coma.

Doubleknit note: For some reason the latest podcast is not updating in iTunes. We are working on it. In the meantime you can always listen to it from the Doubleknit blog.
