New (to Me) Ravelry Feature

This may be old news but I just noticed that you can now upload photos to Ravelry project pages from your Instagram.

That saves me the step of putting my photos on Flickr to access via Ravelry. Cool!

What's Your Number?

Here's a fun Ravelry tip. You can find out your Ravelry number (when you joined Ravelry's  4,213,343 users) using the Konami code. Here's how.

1) Go to your "about me" page.

2) Use the Konami code BA (on my PC I do this by holding the Ctrl key and using the arrow buttons).

3) The screen goes blue.

4) Your number appears under your "Raveler since" date.

Pretty fun trick, eh?

How Can You Tell When a Knit Goes Viral?

When your Friend's Activity page on Ravelry looks like this.

Make Your Own

The Malabrigo Mini Mitt pattern is now available as a free Ravelry download. Thanks so much for all the interest. I'm stunned to see that 39 people have queued the pattern already!

Ravelry Rave

Have you seen the new Friend's Activity setup on Ravelry? Too much fun. Goodbye, free time!

Hive Mind

For a moment there I thought Ravelry was having a technical problem because everyone had queued the same item.

Guess you're all pretty stoked about this sweater, huh?

Knitter Gone Wild

After working so diligently recently on getting old projects off the needles I lost my mind this week. It started on Wednesday when Wes innocently asked, "Do you think you could make a baby gift for my friends by next weekend?" Uh, hell yeah. I ran home and grabbed up the leftover Inca Cotton from a baby blanket from last year. I hit up the Ravelry Experimental Pattern Search. Are you using it? It rocks. Like really hard. I plugged in my yarn weight and a range for yardage. I was guessing I had 200-300 yards. Check for baby items. Answer the Soft Baby Cardigan from The Knitter's Book of Yarn (check for errata).

I haven't had any socks on the needles for a few weeks. I was heading out with Wes and the boys and wanted a good take-along project. So I cast on for the Merino Lace Socks in Smooshy from an old IK. Two at a time on one circular because I was in a rush and I found my 40" size 1 needle first.

And then last night I saw this cool free pattern (Ravelry download) for a short row hat and thought, "That would look cool in that leftover handspun I have." So I cast on and am nearly halfway done.

Someone stop me!

Casual Sweater Friday

With my Sockapalooza socks out of the way (thanks for the compliments though I did notice that deodorant dude got my more comments than my most favorite pair of socks ever. Not bitter or anything, just saying.)I started hunting for a new project. I haven't worked on a new sweater lately and I've been thinking I need more spring/summer weight sweaters. Something simple to knock around in. I pulled out my blue Cotton-Ease and my stash of All Seasons Cotton. I started to dream up a multi-colored top-down sweater in the ASC maybe with set-in sleeves. I went through books, magazines and Ravelry for inspiration. Then I just wimped out and started a sweater from the Mission Falls Simple book. I originally planned on making the Bay Cardigan but it just looks so frumpy in the photo and I was thinking of a simple pullover. So I started the Bay Funnel Neck Pullover. I won't do the funnel neck, just a simple crew neck. The cable and lace pattern is simple and fun to knit. It did give me a pang of longing to start my Katharine Hepburn Cardigan but that is a wool sweater and I don't need a wool sweater right now.

I'm wearing my Sitcom Chic right now. I haven't worn it at all because when I finished it I wove in all the ends then clipped off the excess. Unfortunately there was one end that didn't get woven in but did get clipped leaving a hole at one of the underarms. I finally pulled out a sharp needle and some more pink Cotton-Ease and fixed it up.

One last note, Caryn, mentioned a new free online photo editing site called Picnik. Then in a strange confluence of events my photo editing software refused to open. So I tried Picnik out and I like it a lot. It's very simple to use and can link directly to your online photo sharing account.

Ravelry Rocks

This is a kick ass little tool. It is greatly enhanced if all your photos are in Flickr. Mine aren't so I'll have to slowly move them over. I may get rid of my stash blog. This is so much easier.

Updated 5/3: Don't despair if you have requested an invitation but haven't received it yet. They are sending them out bit by bit.
