I finished my first Elwood mitten last night at Purlygirls.
He's so cute I couldn't stop giggling over it. There were also a lot of comments about my beaver that had us all giggling. And, yes, we are 12 years old.
As you can see my stranded colorwork isn't all that great. I have a hard time with tension since my left hand is much, much looser than my right. I should have put the white yarn in my left hand instead of the brown. Also I should have trapped every 2-3 stitches instead of 5-6. Also, even though the two yarns are the same gauge, the brown is much more plump which is another challenge to evenness. Let's just call it a learning experience.

He makes me smile. Great job.
I know you listed all the imperfections, but I can't get past the cuteness to see any of 'em ;)
If you left hand tension is looser than your right, and you want to even out the tensions on the two colors, have you thought about switching which hand has which color after every round?
I love seeing Elwood here because he always makes me smile (and I'm sure blocking will help.)
Elwood looks great!
I've heard to even tension in stranded work, knit the mitten "inside out". I haven't tried that myself yet.
I also have a tough time with tension because my two hands get different gauges. My solution is to hold both yarns in my right hand. It's not that yard to do, and for me, the result is much nicer.
