Toadstool Baby Rattle

Pattern: Toadstool Baby Rattle by Purl Soho
Yarn: Sophie's Toes (green) and unknown sock yarn (gray)
Needle: 2.75mm Addi Lace Needle
Notes: I decided to make a gift last night for a one year old's birthday party today. The invitation suggested as a gift, "What small item might she find while lost in the forest that she could safely amuse herself with." So toadstool rattle. I could only find one store nearby with the appropriate cat toy to go inside but it's larger than the usual ones so my mushroom cap is bigger and rounder than I wanted. It's a very cute, fast pattern. I would use a slightly larger yarn next time with the same small needle to make a denser fabric.

Love the rattle! The "gift suggestion" caused my eyes to roll so hard I had to smack myself on the back of the head to unstick them, though. Like it's not hard enough to shop for other people's children without having to solve a riddle? I'm afraid my response to that would be to buy the loudest, plastic-iest, most made-in-China Elmo toy requiring like five lantern batteries. Or just give the kid a pinecone and call it good.

My baby son just had his first birthday last Sunday, and when people ASKED what they should get him, we said books and bath toys. We didn't write a haiku. Maybe I'm just cranky today. I'm sure your friends are lovely people, but DAMN.

Had to laugh at the first comment. (I am going to guess that your friends are first-time parents...?) I hope the babe liked the rattle!
